Liz Cheney is Luke Skywalker
The Darth Vader for much of the country during the George W. Bush Administration was Dick Cheney. He epitomized the dark force liberals believed was driving America off a moral and democratic cliff or worse into oblivion. The Iraq War, Katrina, the Patriot Act, the Valerie Plame affair, the recession, Abu Ghraib. You name it. It was Dick Cheney’s fault.
Now of course W is a beloved wiseman and artist. We remember a dashing and dignified public figure with a beam in that trim jumpsuit on that aircraft carrier. The ever-present sly smile of Laura Bush makes sense now that we see W through rose colored glasses.
As evil as Darth Vader was, he appeared in 7 out of 12 Star Wars movies because every good drama needs a villain and Darth Vader and Dick Cheney are superb in the role. Seeing Dick Cheney’s face sent shivers down the spine of millions of people but like Darth Vader he produced a force for good in the end.
Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker’s father (spoiler alert) in the Star Wars saga and Dick Cheney is Liz Cheney’s father in the saga of U.S. politics. The Republican Congresswoman who was ousted last week from GOP leadership in Congress for standing up to Donald Trump’s big lie about the 2020 election is part of a rebel alliance fighting an epic battle within the Republican Party against the Galactic Empire led by Donald Trump.
Liz Cheney’s roots in the Republican Party are deep and her circle is strong. She will retreat to Wyoming and employ the only winnable battle strategy known to moderate Republicans most recently on display in the U.S. Senate race between Republican Susan Collins and Democrat Sara Gideon in Maine.
Cheney will bolster a fiercely loyal home base by working the hardest to provide her constituents what they want and need — honest hardworking government that provides for the general welfare of the People as mandated by the Constitution.
Her base in Wyoming will have her back and Liz Cheney will live to see another casting call in Washington DC because America loves conservative women who stand up to bullies. My money says she is on a presidential ticket in the years to come perhaps as the vice presidential candidate but who knows? Maybe she will get the lead for leading wayward Republicans from the wilderness or better yet blowing up the Death Star.
Today, to Liz Cheney the great state of Wyoming - may the Force be with you.
