Enough about Eliot Cutler. What about the rest of us?

As if being a “spoiler” in the very grossest sense wasn’t bad enough. Eliot Cutler is a hoarder of broken hearts and dreams of thousands of beautiful kids and for that I despise him at this moment. My heart hurts for his family. I hold him responsible for so much sorrow that nine months in a county jail sounds like a kiss on the cheek. His polished words of remorse can be burned in effigy as far as I’m concerned.

What a fraud!

What a pig!

What do we do?

We do what weary people around the the world do in the face of calamity and come together to help each other.

We commit to doing everything in our power to protect children!

And burning in effigy is not a bad idea, actually, given the gravity of the situation and expanse of the stench of Eliot. Exorcism has its roots in ancient days.

Since the beginning of time there have been ceremonies and rituals to drive out evil spirits which is exactly what we need. Eliot Cutler’s despicable crimes in the context of his public presence deserves such an occasion. We will feel better if the air is fumigated and the essence of anything Eliot turned to dust.

You are cordially invited. Come June 1st - the day Cutler is scheduled to begin his jail sentence - burn something. Light a match or some incense. Torch a bumper sticker or a newspaper with his mug on it.

In the seconds of your small personal vigil, imagine you are part of the collective community bonfire where everyone with aching hearts can pile on their sorrow. Toss on to the roaring flames your anger and grief. Heave into the embers your shock and horror and despair.

Imagine watching the fire rage together. Stare at the flames until your eyes are drawn to the heavens and then unleash a torrent of tears. In the metaphorical morning the fire will be out and we will begin again.

To say I’m disgusted by Eliot Cutler doesn’t do justice to the sentiment. Rage does not fully capture the emotion either but it’s close. Why Eliot Cutler is perverted in the most profound way and how regular cruel violence against women and children serve for the sexual gratification of powerful men haunts me.

Detox is in these days. The good people of Maine deserve clean air and honorable leaders.
