An Ode to the Queen
The Queen does for me what Jesus does for others. The story of Elizabeth II is a tome on what to do with great privilege when you have it. Lead by example in service to others. Be brave, kind and colorful.
For modern Christians the bible is the central self-help book. The stories are fables that teach lessons. The truth is in the metaphor.
The trove of true tales of heroism, humor and strength of Elizabeth II compiled over the course of her life is another manual on how to navigate time on earth while contemplating the mystery of the universe. The Queen’s life is a collection of parables that will provide comfort and guidance and inspire us to be our best selves long after her death. She lived and loved with purpose and steely dignity for us to see what duty looks like.
The Queen is an archetype of what it can mean to be a woman. She presents as a mosaic of ancient and modern precious gems. Her energy is dignified and soused with a stiff shot of yang that lights a warm fire under the glow of her royal yin.
As princess she was a mechanic during World War II. As Queen she bred and rode race horses, hunted and just 2 years ago wrung the neck of wounded game bird with her own hands to put it out of its misery — the same hands that donned glamorous white gloves to arrange slightly the heavy jewel-encrusted crown on her head before knighting Elton John.
The place in Scotland where the ceremonies began for QEII’s funeral procession is from the 10th century! Rumor has it a closet at Buckingham Palace is where to catch a direct flight on a time machine to dinner with King Arthur at the Round Table.
That’s the magic of the monarchy. It is a bridge between worlds and a boundary. The Queen is the opposite force of the Tik Tok craze - the sacred versus profane. The question for King Charles is whether he has her recipe and secret ingredients for survival. I believe he does because the Queen does.
We shall see if my faith is blind.
Both Queen and Christ are mythical creatures of two worlds. Jesus, son of God. Queen Elizabeth, daughter of and mother to the King. The pageantry of the British monarchy at its essence is a ritual of high art representing human connection to the Divine. Bread is the body of Christ. The flash of Elizabeth’s smile is communion with motherly love.
I believe in Her Majesty and she has proved worthy of my faith in the thousands of small courageous steps she took on the world stage in living color with matching handbag. The lessons and carols of the Queen’s epic journey ring fiercely loyal in love and to the greater good.
The Queen lived as a faithful steward of the past while marching chin up towards the future with courage, curiosity, style and good humor.
Elizabeth II was Mother Earth and Father Time. With Her Majesty’s death the world has lost a loving parent. My gratitude and sorrow are profound - another reveal of the Queen’s power to stir hearts and minds.
God bless the Queen.
